March 27, 2015

Since I lack the discipline to update daily, its difficult to summarize
the week just past.  Last Sunday, March 15th, after Mass and later
breakfast, I thought about and started to trim the Red tipped Photinia
we use as a separating shrub between our house and the neighbor on the
west side.  They have been there since 1981 and have grown tall and some
what spread out, especially the tops.  Birds, mostly doves, nest at night
and their droppings have made part of the sculptured blocks look awful.
The only way to eliminate that problem was to trim the bushes at the top
so that they would no longer have a place to habitually nest at night.
I trimmed them starting on Sunday because, Mondays is yard waste pickup
as well as garbage day.  Yard waste must be in a bag, or bundled or in a
container. I was only able to stuff a small amount in two rubber maid
containers. The rest of the clippings remained on the driveway close to the
containers. My unrealistic hope was that the collectors might chose to put in
the rest, if not some, of the clippings. The truck is good size and they would
have done me a great favor. But no, they just did their job and picked up the
two containers.

Photinias can grow as big as trees.
Later during the week, after I trimmed and cut the grass, I decided to chop
down to size the remaining clippings so as to fit them in the two containers
as before.  I filled the two containers, and still needed more container space.
I decided that in the interest of removing the eye sore of the clippings, I would use the Garbage can as well. Typically, we don't collect enough garbage to fill up the container. Well, the large looking container, does not
really hold much. I decided that since I had chopped the clipping of one of the containers, in small enough pieces, that I would empty the can in Falo's
compost pile. That allowed me to remove some of the clipping from the Garbage can, which was too full and would not leave enough room for garbage bags during the week.
That took me about two hours to accomplish; my back was aching and I was tired. That was only Tuesday. Might have to wrap up the rest of the week in
a couple of sentences because its Friday March 27, its after 12 noon and I
have an eye appointment.
Later .....
